Description

Originally from the photo I posted months ago about my version of the Gotei 13 from Bleach. (angelicheresy.deviantart.com/a…)
After a lot of inquiries about the characters, I decided to just give them full profiles, which led to make giving each of them their own photo. I wanted it to be them in action so you can get an idea of who they are and what their powers are like. Each one of my Gotei members is based off of one of the current Bleach characters in some way. In the case of Kartikeya, he's a combination of Tousen, a foil to Kenpachi Zaraki, and Shuhei.

Since conception, Kenpachi Mangala has remained the same and hasn't changed since the first photo. Confession time, after I came up with the idea for his lieutenant, I thought about switching their powers but I had already drawn this and I really liked it so I pushed that out of my mind. I based his armor partly on historic Indian armor but also on henna designs.

Appearance- Kartikeya is a dark skinned Indian man with curly black hair, brown eyes, and a lean but very muscular body. He wears the standard uniform of a Shinigami, including a Captain’s haori with small modifications. His hakama pants are shorter than usual, stopping right above his ankles, he wears a patterned dark orange scarf wrapped around his waist (over his haori) and instead of geta, he wears gold pointed toe slippers. He’s always seen wearing a purple turban which allows a few of his curls to escape. His hands and feet are covered in rust colored henna and he wears a red bindi at the center of his forehead. He has a beard and mustache, big black plugs stretching both ears, and a gold chain connecting from a ring piercing his left nostril that hooks to a ring piercing his left earlobe. He has a hairy chest which can partially be seen underneath his kimono and he rims his eyes with black kohl.

Personality- Kartikeya is a proclaimed lover of peace, hating conflict and believing painful battles should be ended as quickly as possible; a man who will always try to talk his way out of battles. He has shown a great distaste for fighting and dislikes taking the life of innocent people. This non-violent philosophy conflicts heavily with his role as the current Kenpachi and many of his subordinates judge him for this philosophy, but that’s only those who have never seen him in battle. Despite his reticence to engage in battle, Kartikeya is a powerful and fierce fighter if he is forced to do battle. He maintains a level of honor and integrity when engaging in battle and he always maintains a veil of respect for his opponent, always giving them the option to forfeit and live before killing them. He abhors fighting and will generally go through days of repentance after battle.
Kartikeya is a very spiritual man, seeing every encounter as fate, believing heavily in Karma, and frequently praying to the Gods and meditating. This is how he’s always able to keep himself always calm and controlled. Kartikeya especially prays to Kali, goddess of death, as he sees death (especially on the battlefield) as the ultimate end.
Kartikeya is not always such the pacifist though. The reason he meditates so much and abstains from battle is that he has a dark, violent side that he’s constantly suppressing and fighting brings this side out of him. Despite being a gentle person, he is cold, ruthless and calculating when fighting. Once he is done fighting, however, he reverts to his gentle self after hours of meditation; days, if he killed them.

Powers & Abilities

Master Swordsman: Though he has a personal philosophy that questions the need for violence, Kartikeya’s personal specialty is swordplay, particularly his mastery n the art of Kendo. He is said to be a master of all the countless styles of swordsmanship that exist in the world, and his skill level in swordsmanship is far superior to anyone else in the Soul Society. His skill is so masterful, he can strike multiple times with changes of attack type (from slash to pierce) without any difficulty.

Shunpo Expert: Kartikeya is fast enough to be able to sneak up behind his opponent before they’ve realized it. Kartikeya is able to cut off his enemies arm before they feel any pain, and obliterate the arm with a mid-level Kido spell before it hits the ground, which is a testament to his speed.

Kido Expert: Even though he hardly ever uses it, Kartikeya has been shown using high-level Kido spells without incantation. He usually only uses healing spells to heal himself during battle.

Hakudo Master: While preferring to use his blade in battle, Kartikeya has proven several times to be very dangerous while barehanded, using swift and powerful kicks to easily overpower and throw around other skilled fighters. Much of his skill in Hakudo is geared towards precise strikes that can instantly incapacitate the enemy.

Great Spiritual Power: As the captain of the 11th Division of the Gotei 13, Kartikeya boasts a great amount of spiritual energy. His skill in the use of his spiritual power is evident in his ability to maintain his Shikai (which is solely reliant on Reiatsu) for long periods of time. His Reiatsu is orange.

Enhanced Strength: Despite having a leaner frame, Kartikeya is strong enough to stop opponents of massive size with a finger. His strength grants him the ability to fight back his opponent's attacks with a single arm or hold back a Bankai level blade with one hand.

Enhanced Speed: Kartikeya has demonstrated tremendous speed and reflexes in battle. Even when caught by surprise from an enemy's attack, he can react in time to skillfully dodge or counter the assault. Offensively, he can keep up a quick and rapid assault which forces most opponents on the defense, as he leaves no openings in his attacks.

Enhanced Agility: While normally calm and collected, Kartikeya is an immensely agile fighter. In battle, he can effectively use the battlefield to his advantage, flipping and jumping from wall to wall to keep his opponents unsure of his attack patterns. Offensively, his agility grants him great balance and dexterity in battle, attacking his opponent from various angles with great accuracy and force.

Enhanced Durability: While not the most imposing in appearance, Kartikeya has received considerable physical training and is well-conditioned for battle. He can take large amounts of punishment.

Zanpakuto

Vajra (“Diamond; Thunderbolt”): In its sealed state, it resembles a firangi with a golden hilt and diamond-shaped guard.

Shikai: Its Shikai command is Rip Them to Pieces and Pray for Their Sins (“Tukade Karane Ke Lie Unhen Cheer Aur Apane Paapon Ke Lie Praarthana”). Vajra glows brightly and as the light vanishes, Vajra has been transformed into a different kind of sword. The hilt of Vajra is now an actual Vajra with the blade of a talwar. The hilt is made of bronze while the blade looks almost crystalline.

Shikai Special Ability:

Sword Duplication: Kartikeya can split Vajra into 2 identical swords. They are both real and capable of combat.

Reiatsu Arm Generation: Vajra allows Kartikeya to summon 2 extra sets of arms made out of reiatsu (That’s 4 new arms altogether). These arms are capable of creating weapons out of reiatsu and their attacks are very much real. This coupled with his swordsmanship makes him a very capable fighter. The arms can appear wherever he chooses them to be but generally, he can only make them appear in his line of sight. Also, the further he manifests them from his body, the harder it is for him to maintain them. Even though this power is useful, maintaining the arms and allowing them to be solid takes a lot of control so long term use of this power can be draining.

    ·         Sword Summoning: Each of his reiatsu arms can summon an unreleased version of Vajra. This added firepower makes Kartikeya very powerful as he now has six swords to fight with. The power behind these swords are only as strong as the amount of control and energy he puts into them so when he’s weak, the arms will be practically intangible. But because the arms are energy, he can make them intangible at will, allowing him to will his sword to pass through his enemies flesh but cut their insides or will them to cut an armored enemy without cutting their armor.

     ·         Prakaash Kee Chamak (“Flash of Lightning”): Kartikeya stores energy in his fists as his reiatsu arm appear around him, fists balled. As Kartikeya punches his enemy, his reiatsu arms punch as well, creating a rapid attack of punches. He can do a variation of this attack using sword slashes instead of punches.

    ·         Bijalee (“Bolt of Lightning”): Allows Kartikeya to summon bolts of lightning from his reiatsu arms. The lightning only comes from the arms but he cannot summon it from his own hands.

Bankai

Indra Ka Vajra: Bhaudhara (“Indra’s Thunderbolt: Bhaudhara”): All of the arms slam their fists together, creating electricity around them. The reiatsu arms begin to grow golden armor that covers them completely while armor covers Kartikeya’s arms up to the elbows. Vajra (the sword) is now a permanently dual wielded weapon that Kartikeya wields in his real hands and they’re now a lot bigger. Another set of armored arms appear, but as they move, they begin spawning more sets of arms. In this form, Kartikeya has 14 arms to fight with (including his own) and 4 of these arms are bigger than the others and float behind him. The larger set of arms can summon spears of lightning and the 8 other arms can summon 8 swords in their Shikai form that he can use to fight as well. The arms are attached to a wheel-like device that floats behind Kartikeya’s back. Armor also appears over his shoulders.
Behind him hovers a bronze drum-like wheel with 8 drums, each containing a mitsudomoe on them. The 4 at the cardinal points are slightly larger while the other 4 are a little smaller. Storm clouds move in, covering the area in darkness and storms.

Bankai Special Ability: In Bankai, Kartikeya can still use all of his new arms but now they are solid. This makes maintaining his power a lot easier as now he only needs to use his reiatsu for attacks and not the arms themselves.

    Lightning Creation:

    ·         Bijalee: Indra Ke Teer (“Lightning Bolt: Indra’s Arrow”): By absorbing lightning from the sky, Indra Ka Vajra: Bhaudhar’s 4 larger arms can create javelins of lighning. These javelins can be thrown and when they make contact with the enemy both harms threw through electrocution but also (if they survive) leave them in a state of paralysis.

    ·         Bijalee: Indra Ke Huk (“Lightning Bolt: Indra’s Hook”): A more advanced version of Prakaash Kee Chamak, this attack covers all of his fists in lightning and strengthens the power of his punches, adding lightning to them.

    ·         Bijalee: Indra Ke Svarn Rath (“Lightning Bolt: Indra’s Golden Chariot”): Allows Kartikeya to summon large balls of lightning that he can throw at his enemy.

    ·         Bijalee: Svarg Rosh (“Lightning Bolt: Heaven’s Fury”): A more advanced version of Bijalee, this attack allows all of the arms to shoot bolts of lightning from them. These bolts are extremely hot and extremely powerful. Because one comes from each hand, Kartikeya can attack a variety of enemies at once.

o        Bijalee : Indra Ka Shuddh (“Lightning Bolt: Indra’s Net”): Kartikeya’s strongest attack. Each hand fires a bolt of lightning towards the sky. After a second, enormous bolt of lightning fall from the sky, attacking and destroying everything around him, whether they are friend or foe. This lightning is so powerful, it has the ability to completely obliterate anything it hits. Despite its power, these bolts are very hard for Kartikeya to control so they can even hurt him.

Spirit- Vajra is quite the sight to behold. Standing at 9 feet tall, this large, muscular, golden skinned woman is quite the figure. Unlike the spirit, Apophis, whose golden skin looks like skin, Vajra’s skin is shiny and metallic like a statue. She has four muscular arms and 3 heads, each sporting the same snarling expression, fanged white teeth, and large bronze disc earrings. They each speak at the same time, making Vajra’s voice imposing and booming. On her head, she wears a traditional bronze and jeweled Tibetan crown and a red tilaka on her forehead. She wears a dark crimson bandeau and matching short pants with a loincloth attached. Bronze and colored stone beads dangle from her neck and the ornate bronze and jeweled belt around her waist. Bronze bangles jangle on her wrists, ankles, and forearms and instead of feet, she has another pair of hands. Her dark red eyes glow and she’s able to summon 4 of her Shikai swords, able to feet using her hands and feet-hands.
Unlike her master, Vajra is very hot-tempered, confrontational, and hostile. When she gets angry, smoke issues from her mouth and thunder rolls. She loves battle, seeing everything as a fight. Because of this, she will take nearly anything anyone says to her as an insult and if she’s insulted, she will fight. When in battle if she thinks an opponent is stronger than her, she will fight until she is proven the strongest and if they’re weaker, she will berate them as she kills them. Vajra and Kartikeya have a very contemptuous relationship as she sees Kartikeya as being weak because he hates to fight. Kartikeya on the other hand hopes that his philosophies will rub off on Vajra.

Inner World- Vajra’s world is as vast as she is. She resides in an enormous golden ancient Hindu temple. Huge golden elephant statues frame the staircase which leads to it. Lush, green jungle surrounds the temple but despite these ideal conditions, the sky is dark. Thunder can be heard intermittedly and lightning ignites the sky. Huge sconces are set around the temple containing blue fire and a heady perfume permeates the air. Peacocks leisurely walk in and out of the temples enormous gold and jade archways and a giant rainbow circles the entire temple.
At the top of the long stairs, there lies a huge courtyard and in the middle of the courtyard is a raised platform. Vajra sits on the platform waiting patiently. In order for Kartikeya to hold an audience with Vajra, he must first fight and win a battle with her. She gives him the option to use a wide array of weapons including a bow, net, hook, mace, javelin, discus, or spear but never a sword. If victory is obtained, she will answer all questions honestly and will give sound advice.

History- TBD

Trivia-

  • Even though Vajra’s Bankai name is based on the Hindu god of lightning and war, Kartikeya is also named after another Hindu war god.
  • Kartikeya is loosely based on Captain Nemo of League of Extraordinary Gentlemen.
  • Despite being the best swordsman in all of the Soul Society, Kartikeya is actually a pacifist. He abhors fighting and will generally go through days of repentance after battle.
  • The previous Kenpachi, Kumicho Yamaguchi, started a division within her squad called The Kenbukido (“Art of the Dancing Sword”). They are the main military force, trained to be the Generals in times of war and using their impressive strength and skills with a sword, they are tasked with carrying out large scale ambushes and coordinated attacks. They are different from the Onmitsukido in that they operate very publicly.
  • Since Kenpachi Zaraki, there have been 3 other Kenpachis. After his death, Yachiru Kusajishi took over. As her position was only meant to be on a temporary basis, Captain Commander Kuchiki appointed Ichigo Kurosaki as the next Kenpachi. When Kumicho Yamaguchi challenged him, Ichigo forfeited as he began to find his life of battle weary and Kumicho became the next Kenpachi until Kartikeya defeated her.
  • Kartikeya’s lieutenant, Katlego Jabari, has a Zanpakuto which summons 10 swords of legend, using a ring on her finger and each sword possesses a different ability.
