Young Justice OC: Blackout

Although I'm more of a Marvel Comics fan, I love the animated Young Justice and I decided I wanted to create a character for it. But since Young Justice is based off the comic books, I felt weird about making a character for the show and not the comic but when the Reach was introduced, I saw this as an opportunity to use them to my advantage. I wanted to make my character a play on an unused character from the Justice Friends like the other Reach abductees but that didn't work out so I made one from scratch. I used the character sheet for Robin II for inspiration ([link]). I got the inspiration for his real name from his ability to take away senses so I thought of famous people without a sense so I used Cynthia Nixon (who doesn't have a sense of smell), Joanne O'Riordan (who was born without limbs) and Helen Keller (who was apparently blind, deaf, and mute). I've received comments from readers and just to clarify, the skills and powers I've listed do not necessarily mean he can do these things from the beginning. He had to learn to control and still is learning about his powers.

Abilities- Blackout has the ability to manipulate his five senses and the senses of others within his line of sight. In order to do this, he must lessen a sense in order to enhance one. He can lessen all of his enemies senses to enhance his own but if he enhances one of his own senses, he has to lessen one of his own. Similar to the Law of Equivalent Exchange, he can never enhance a sense without dulling one or vice verse. This means he could probably only enhance 2 or 3 of them at a time without completely cutting off another. It’s so precise that he can designate one object to be affected, meaning he can make himself invisible by creating a blind spot where he is and deafening any noise he makes. Using his ability, he can accomplish many feats including blinding, deafening, muting, limited invisibility, selective hearing, and sonic screams. When it comes to manipulating the sense of touch, he can not only control the sense but he has the unique ability to alter his own strength, speed, and endurance by altering someone else’s. At its height he can lift three times his weight. He has a naturally built in heightened sense of intuition and instinct, giving him a “sixth sense”.
Because his powers affect the part of the brain that controls the senses, a telepath can easily negate his power and anyone immune to psychic attacks are immune to his powers. Another exploitation is that if a person is aware of the dynamics of his powers and they know which of his own senses he's enhanced, they can use that to their advantage. He can only affect one other with his powers (besides himself).

Blackout has been trained by the team and his parents in advanced gymnastics, martial arts, stealth, and tracking. Because of the passiveness of his abilities and his reliance on someone with excess strength to share, Blackout wears a heavily padded and armored uniform, equipped with brass knuckles. Nightwing trains him alongside Batgirl and Robin.

Distinguishing Features- Blue hair, 2 eyebrow, snakebite, 5 left ear, and 5 right ear piercings. Tattoo on chest of 3 skulls wrapped in bandages corresponding with the saying “Hear no evil, See no evil, Speak no evil”. His eyes glow when he activates his powers.

Personality-
Blackout is easy going, very adventurous, rebellious, and sometimes reckless. He will try anything once and seems to be fearless. He chooses to live each day like it’s his last, which leads to him wanting to experience anything he can. He hates rules and authority and anything that restricts his own freedom, but aside from these qualities, he’s rather kind, faithful, and funny. He is a very flirtatious person who flits in and out of his attractions for people. Even though his outward appearance sometimes seems aggressive and mean, he’s actually a big jokester who just wants to have fun.

History-
- Born the son of 2 high ranking military officials, Nixon grew up in Connecticut under strict ruling and a thousand restrictions. They taught him many forms of self-defense and his father was prepping him to be in the military by teaching him strategy and military tactics.
- Aside from his controlling parents, he had a pretty normal childhood. His younger sister was always good company and they played together a lot.
- On his 16th birthday, he invited over his best friend, Mike, to his birthday party and after the party was over, he kissed Mike.
- Mike reacted badly, calling Nixon terrible names which drew the attention of his parents. When Mike told them what had happened they looked at their son with disgust in their eyes and told him to leave and never come back.
- Kicked out of the house, Nixon had nowhere else to go and while sleeping on the streets, Nix found himself being taken captive by The Reach.
- They took him to their labs and experimented on his genes, activating his Meta-gene and giving him his powers.
- After The Team rescued the abductees from The Reach’s base,Nixon told The Team he wanted to join but they denied him saying he needed to learn about his powers and he was taken to STAR Labs.
- At STAR Labs, Nixon found himself very attracted to Tye Longshadow.
- When Eduardo, Asami, Tye, and Virgil escaped, Nixon saw this as his opportunity to escape during the commotion and he used his powers to slip away. After leaving, he contacted his family and after a brief and loving conversation with his sister, his father angrily took the phone and told him to never call again. Nixon then decided now was the time to again ask The Team to join and this time they accepted.
- When The League contacted his parents to let them know where he was, they told them that they don't have a son and shortly thereafter they agreed to legally emancipate him.
- Now that Nixon isn't as restricted, he’s been enjoying his freedom by discovering who he is. He dyed and cut his hair, pierced several body parts, got a tattoo, and began to dress the way he wants. With this freedom came his freedom to finally express his desires for boys. He’s flirted with almost every male team member but he especially likes to flirt with Superboy, Robin, Aqualad, and in particular, Arsenal.
- He spends his free time getting in trouble with Zatanna and Wonder Girl. He also plays really bad jokes on the other team members with Impulse.
- When out of uniform, he dresses in punk clothing.
- He lives in his own apartment in Star City.
